SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Goals of our Scholarship Program

The Committee for Relief to Polish Children launched the Scholarship Program in 2017, financed by the Lisowski-Smykowski Fund. This year, our goal is to extend assistance to :

young people of Polish origin in the province of Quebec intending to attend college or university;
wards of Children's Homes in Poland who intend to take vocational training in preparation for independence;
young people living in villages, small towns and larger cities in regions with high unemployment in Poland who intend to study at a gymnasium/high school or university.

Who can receive a scholarship ?

Graduates of a high school who intend to study at a college and college students who intend to continue their studies at a college;
College graduates who intend to study at a university and university students who intend to continue their studies at a university.

Formal criteria

The scholarship is determined by academic performance, gross income for a student living alone not more than $28,000 , gross income for a student living with parents not more than $26,000 per person, good Polish language skills and positive feedback from two recommenders.

What expenses does the scholarship cover ?

The scholarship may cover the cost of buying books, textbooks, partially or fully paying tuition fees, school travel subscriptions, internet fees, fees for extra lessons, partially or fully paying dormitory fees.

It is not possible for children and youth to apply directly from Poland. These applications will only be considered by organizations in Poland with which the Committee for Relief to Polish Children will cooperate.

Scholarships for children from orphanages in Poland

In the second area of support, the Board of Directors decided to recruit candidates for scholarship recipients in foster care facilities with which it has already cooperated in the past.
For this purpose, we are using our database and the following facilities have been designated for the beginning:

Care and Education Center "WZRASTANIE" in Katowice;
Mother Veronica Home in Lublin;
Catholic Support Center for Children and Youth in Braniewo;
Society for the Care of the Blind - Laski Association;
Care Center "Nasz Dom" in Ostrowc Świętokrzyski.

Scholarships for young people from regions affected by high unemployment in Poland

In the third area of support,the Board of Directors selected for cooperation :

"Work of the New Millennium" Foundation;;
"Bread of Life Community Homes" Foundation;
"St. Nicholas" Foundation;
"Art. S.O.S." Foundation in Suwałki.

The selection was made on the basis of criteria presented and approved at a joint meeting of the Scholarship Committee and the Audit Committee:

Lisowski Smykowski Fund criterion - equalizing educational opportunities for children and young people in difficult financial circumstances;
Experience of the organization in scholarship activities;
Effectiveness of scholarship activities;
Capacity for local diagnosis;
Reporting capacity - semester reports on the grantee's progress in the program;
Financial reporting capability - financial stability.

To this should be added impeccable moral ethics of the administration.
